Last weekend, the John Sutch Cranes team was called in to support a critical installation at Manchester Airport, delivering a lift at Stand 311 using two of our flagship machines — the Grove GMK5150 and Grove GMK5200.
The job marked another standout project in a high-security, high-traffic environment, where precision, planning, and experienced operators are absolutely essential.
We were proud to bring our A-team to the site - and even prouder of how they delivered.
The operation involved the coordinated use of two all-terrain cranes, selected for their compact footprint and powerful lifting capabilities - ideal for working in constrained airport zones. The Grove GMK5150 and GMK5200 worked in perfect sync, allowing for the safe and efficient placement of critical infrastructure components.
Leading the charge were two of our most experienced crane operators - Ian Gardner and Tony Bradley — a pair we regularly refer to as the 'dream team' for their calm control, technical awareness, and outstanding teamwork on site.
Supporting them on the ground were John Every and Nile Harwood, who ensured everything was prepped, rigged, and executed exactly to plan. From initial set-up to post-lift teardown, the crew operated like clockwork — exactly what’s needed in a sensitive, time-critical airport environment.
Mick Turner, Technical Sales Representative at John Sutch Cranes, said: “Manchester Airport is a live, high-pressure site with zero margin for error. That’s why clients come to us. We’ve got the experience, the right kit, and most importantly, the right people. Ian, Tony, John, and Nile delivered this job with precision and professionalism - the kind of work we’re known for.
"Operating in airports requires not just mechanical capability, but clearances, coordination with airside operations, and rigorous compliance with safety protocols. The Sutch team has a long history of supporting infrastructure projects across the UK - and Manchester is a site we know well."
