John Sutch Cranes supplied two cranes and operators to Lifting Projects to tandem-lift a 20-tonne tank out of a decommissioned plant in Cheshire.
Les was on our 300-tonne Grove GMK6300L-1, and Chris was on our 70-tonne SANY SAC700E. Each crane took one end of the tank after Les had done all the heavy lifting to get the beast of a unit out of its holding position.

It was a tricky lift. The tank was long and awkward, and the old plant was hemmed in by pipe bridges and steelwork on every side. Sharing the load between two cranes kept the tank level and under control as it came clear.
The job was crane hire, so Lifting Projects planned and ran the lift, with Les and Chris following the lift team’s lead from start to finish.
Once the tank was out, they set it down on timber cradles on a Heavy Haulage trailer for the road to Manchester. John Sutch will be back on Thursday to lift it into place at the other end.
It wasn’t the first time John Sutch and Lifting Projects have worked together.
Paul Parry, sales director at John Sutch Cranes, said: “Les and Chris lifted that tank out with real precision. In a tandem lift the two operators have to work as one, and on a site that tight you need people who know what they’re doing. It’s not our first job with Lifting Projects, and they’re a great team to work with. We’ll see it through in Manchester on Thursday.”
