John Sutch Cranes Ltd, a leading provider of nationwide crane hire and contract lifting services, has successfully completed a high-precision transformer installation at a new substation development in Rotherham, Yorkshire.
The operation involved the careful positioning of two 11.5kV transformers and ancillary equipment onto external concrete plinths, showcasing the company's expertise in specialised heavy lifting solutions.
The project utilised John Sutch Cranes' Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 mobile crane, configured with a full 134-tonne counterweight and 31.9m main boom with 5 falls rigged to the hook block. This strategic setup enabled the team to achieve millimeter-perfect placement of the transformers.
Paul Parry, Sales Director at John Sutch Cranes, commented on the project's success.
He said"This installation perfectly demonstrates our commitment to precision engineering and safety excellence. Our team's ability to place transformers with millimetre accuracy is a testament to the skill of our operators and the strategic planning that goes into every lift we undertake.
"In an industry where precision is paramount, we pride ourselves on consistently exceeding client expectations. And we did!"
Mick Turner, Technical Sales Representative who organised the lifting operation, added: "The Rotherham project required meticulous planning from the outset.
"We conducted thorough site assessments to determine optimal crane positioning adjacent to the North East access gate, which maximised operational efficiency while ensuring all safety parameters were met.
"By implementing specialised rigging techniques and clear communication protocols between our crane operator and rigging crew, we achieved flawless coordination throughout the entire lifting process.
"Seeing the transformers land exactly where they needed to be – down to the millimetre – is what makes all the detailed preparation worthwhile."
