It's been said that we've got the Godfather of the crane game in our team with John Sutch in our ranks, and over the past few weeks John Sutch Cranes had to intervene with the divine and a lift from heavens.
High above the rooftops of Liverpool, a church spire hangs from a single hook - the Anglican Cathedral on the skyline behind it.
This was the scene at St Divine's Church this week, where John Sutch Cranes deployed two all-terrain cranes: a 100-tonne AC100 and a 150-tonne Grove GMK5150XL to lift a new spire onto the church tower.
The spire is being installed in stages as part of the church's restoration, with the John Sutch team on site over several weeks. This week's lift saw the main section flown clear of the surrounding houses, over the fully scaffolded tower and landed into position, where the site team guided it home. The final section goes on this Friday.
Working in a tight residential setting, with limited ground space and a long radius to the top of the tower, the lift was planned and delivered by John Sutch as a contract lift, covering access, ground conditions, radius and the confined site footprint.
Paul Parry, Sales Director at John Sutch Cranes, said: "We've been working on this project for a while now, and this week's lift was a big step getting the spire up and onto the tower above the rooftops in a tight residential setting. On Friday we put the final piece of the jigsaw together. The AC100 and GMK5150XL have given us the reach and control to do it cleanly, and by the weekend St Divine's will have its spire back on the Liverpool skyline."
