132kV Tower Replacement in Cumbria

Our Manchester depot delivered an electrifying performance

John Sutch Cranes recently delivered specialist crane hire and lifting operations for a 132kV tower replacement project in Cumbria, UK, supporting critical energy infrastructure refurbishment works.

The project involved the safe lifting and installation of steel transmission tower sections within a live overhead environment. With high-voltage lines, restricted working areas, and tight tolerances, detailed lift planning and experienced execution were essential.

Utilising a 60-tonne Liebherr mobile crane, operated by Chris Buckley, the team carried out a series of complex lifts to position tower sections accurately and efficiently. Each phase of the lift was carefully coordinated to ensure safety, minimise disruption, and maintain programme timelines.

Working closely with the wider project team, John Sutch Cranes ensured all operations were delivered in line with industry best practice for high-voltage infrastructure, crane hire, and specialist lifting services in the UK.

The client was highly satisfied with the outcome, praising the professionalism on site and the smooth delivery of the works.

Chris Fisher, Depot Manager - Manchester, John Sutch Cranes, said: “This was a technically demanding project in a challenging environment, but the team delivered exactly as planned. From initial coordination through to execution, everything ran smoothly, and it’s a great example of the capability we bring to complex infrastructure projects.”
